Silent Snow

I wrote this poem quite a while ago, but I was really proud of how it turned out, and with the weather on my side of the world turning cold, I figured it was fitting. Hope you all enjoy it!

Background: I wrote this poem at 8:52 a.m. when we had a free day in my speech class. I was bored, so I decided to write. I was inspired by reflecting back on sitting outside, waiting for Mom to pick me up in the winter. This was written on January 13, 2011.

It’s been falling for hours
Millions of tiny, white crystals
Floating gently to the ground
From the window, I see them fall
Silent and beautiful

As I walk outside
The crystals tickle my face and melt
The snow is a blanket of white
Making the world beautifully pure
Silent and calm

I walk alone through the quiet
All I hear is the soft crunch of the snow under my feet
I glance back and see
The fresh blanket of snow interrupted by footprints
Silent and that’s all

I sit and hear nothing
No cars, no voices, not even the wind blowing
I only see the snow falling
And I realize that
Silent is the way it should be

If you liked it (or disliked it!), let me know what you think!
